Upstart Weblog Ad Network Profiled

InternetWeek profiles Jim Kukral, owner and sole employee of BlogKits BlogMatch Network. He's building out an ad network that matches up influential bloggers and advertisers.

From InternetWeek:

"Kukral, which launched BlogKits this year, wants to be the middleman for advertisers and bloggers, directing the former to the weblogs that best fit the products or services they are trying to sell. As payment, Kukral would want a percentage of the deal.

"I try to work with bloggers and advertisers to create specific content that fits with the weblog, as opposed to just throwing up a banner ad," Kukral said.

...Nevertheless, some companies are paying attention. Burst! Media, which sells Internet advertising services, announced last month that it had begun selling advertising on more than 20 weblogs in its more than 2,000-website network. Among the first advertisers to launch a campaign on the blog network was Kyocera Wireless, Bust! Media said.

Before weblogs take off as an advertising vehicle, however, proponents will need to educate Internet users about the medium. Despite the 8 million people who have created blogs, some 60 percent of U.S. web surfers still can't define the term, according to Pew."
